Uncovering the Oasis Within | Restorative Practice with Gabrielle Mendoza

Gabrielle is our valued partner, as we share the belief that true healing arises when we feel safe and understood in our bodies. Founder of Uncovering the Oasis Within and a Registered Yoga teacher trained in trauma-sensitive yoga and somatic therapy, she supports people in managing stress through mindfulness, meditation, and the disciplines of yoga. Oasis offers 1:1 and group restorative practices centred on deep rest and embodied connection. It is also a community that welcomes those seeking renewal and deeper self-connection. Gabrielle leads this work with authenticity and is dedicated to holding space with warmth, compassion, and integrity.

Oasis

Discovering Restorative Practice

Scarlette began her yoga journey in 2017 during a deeply challenging period of personal upheaval, marked by emotional hurt and a loss of safety. Yoga offered her stability in that turbulent season, and over time her practice evolved into something active and strengthening. It was only upon meeting Gabrielle and encountering restorative yoga that she discovered another dimension of practice: slowing down, listening inwardly, and finding safety in stillness.

In 2022–23, Scarlette joined a restorative yoga retreat and completed the 30-hour OASIS Restorative Yoga training hosted by Gabrielle. What began as professional curiosity soon became a profound personal and clinical discovery. Restorative yoga is a gentle practice that uses supported postures, breath, and stillness to cultivate deep rest. Unlike more active forms of yoga, its focus is not on exertion but on creating safety in the body—a space where stress can be held, released, and transformed.

The value of these practices became especially evident during Scarlette’s pregnancy and postpartum season. In a time of significant change and vulnerability, restorative work offered grounding, softening, and a way to return to herself. This experience has shaped her therapeutic perspective, reinforcing the belief that meaningful healing happens when we feel both understood and safe within our bodies.

Extending the Path to Clients

Today, restorative practice forms one of the foundations of how Scarlette supports clients—integrating talk therapy, body awareness, and rest. For those who wish to explore restorative practice more deeply, Gabrielle and the Oasis community provide group classes, retreats, and trainings.
